After a few days on vacation through the Redwoods, we stopped by Grants Pass for lunch. My kids desperately craved some good Asian food as they were so over seafood and kid's meals at most other restaurants. Saw the great reviews on TripAdvisor so we stopped by. The food and the service was amazing. The very nice lady who was the only server was very prompt in getting our order and made sure we were taken care of. Would highly recommend the lunch special BBQ chicken for about $7 which is a quartered chicken seasoned with Thai herbs and BBQ. Comes with salad, side of fried rice and egg roll. I had ended up sharing the chicken with my children. Also would recommend the shrimp tempura. Batter was very light and crunchy. Food was so good that my 9 year wanted us to go back once we had dinner at a fusion Asian restaurant in Ashland. She was not of a fan of fancy Asian fusion food.

As advertised. It did not disappoint. Not the traditional Portland area thai food. I enjoyed it and my mouth felt satisfied that I had achieved my thai fix. It is obviously run by the owner/operator. She is kind and takes care in your meal. It was worth my time and money to come here. I would recommend it to others who want Thai. It is not a pretentious place, just plain good.

Damn fine thai food, that delivers. Prices aren't bad, and the food quality is decent.

No, We can never understand how after we put our order in, a couple sit down behind us and before we get our food, they got their meals. Mr. Picky ordered Mongolian Beef, it came swimming in 1/3 cup of chili oil. When asked why there was so much of it, the lady drained off some... only a couple of tablespoons. It was still swimming in oil. My fresh spring roll rice wrap had 2 small pieces of pork at each end. Aside from the pork, it was simply a salad wrap with peanut sauce on the side. Not a lot of flavour. Hubby extremely not happy... and then I showed him my waterglass which had a large lipstick mark on the rim.

Pretty terrific dishes - we tried 4 of them. Massaman curry was particularly good!

After checking into our hotel, my friend and I went to find food -- we ordered a TON of stuff and we were pretty happy with it. We had tempura asparagus (yum!), we had two different veggie dishes that were kind of the same but still delicious and they have excellent beers available. There was also a singer/guitarist performing which was really nice (he even had his own trio of groupies!). The food was pretty good and very reasonably priced -- I'd be happy to give them a try on my next trip through Grants Pass.

I should have taken a picture of my Pad Kee Mao. I really should have. Everyone knows pad kee mao (drunken noodles) are made with thick rice noodles. Right? Especially a Thai restaurant would know this...right? No. My pad kee mao were made with RAMEN NOODLES. Yes...like ramen noodle soup. ie very thin very curly tangle of ramen. What..???? Now if I had eaten at the restaurant I would have asked to get something else once I saw this. But no, I got my take out order then went back to the hotel, where I saw the cardboard box of dread. So I ate it...the veggies in it were good and fresh, but it tasted nothing like pad kee mao. It tasted like Top Ramen with the water drained out with some steamed veggies thrown in. Seriously. Like exactly like that. The seasoning and all. Anyways, I don't know what the heck happened here. I was and still am confused about this shenanigan. I didn't care to call and tell about it, as I was in Grants Pass on vacay, so I just won't go back again. Simple. And also the older lady in the front of the house who took my order was very rude and couldn't make eye contact. So idk...maybe she was mad at me for ordering a dish of something they ran out of or something....I really just don't know. Weird. Just weird.

After my mis-step eating at Sunflower Thai (in my defense, Royal Barge is closed on Sundays, when my Thai cravings often hit), I finally made it to Royal Barge, which Yelp reviewers and my co-workers alike sang the praises of. I was not disappointed. Similar to Sunflower Thai, I got the glass noodle salad and red curry (they didn't have pumpkin curry as an option, no biggie). Both were really tasty and flavorful, and I would definitely come back any time the craving strikes on a non-Sunday. They also had some interesting non-traditional Thai menu offerings, which is definitely a good sign of authenticity.

Every Thai place I go has a different Pad Thai. This one was very flavorful. I could've eaten a little bit more honestly but the price was lower than most Thai restaurants that I'm used to in LA.

Wow! They opened a fusion place on the north end of town! Great wines and beer. Special drink prices Tuesday? And either Monday or Wednesday another cut rate wine or beer night! Great food!

Being from the Bay Area, we had high expectations of Thai food coming in. This place is ridiculously good. The food is outstanding and the service is great too. We'll be back next time we are in town!

Royal Barge was a nice retreat from a long day of travelling I-5. Cool, pleasantly dark inside against the summer sun outside, and comfortable adjacent to the main drag, Royal Barge offered a nice respite for my company lunch. The decor and seating were pleasant, and the service very friendly and quick. Attentive service was expected, of course, with only a few lunchtime guests dining at the time. I ordered what I consider the litmus test of good thai food, Pad Kee Mao. Each restaurant has a slightly different take on this wide-rice-noodle dish. The best and most authentic Pad Kee Mao, in my estimation, is a perfect balance of umami sauce, slightly sweet and salty, with red pepper, a few bok choy pieces and maybe some broccoli, with the odd addition of a couple of cooked tomato wedges, and the essential thai basil. It's quick tossed and cooked minimally, typically with chicken pieces. But the dish on my plate after ordering this was nothing close, despite its title: many Thai restaurants interpret the dish differently, bur rhis dish failed to meet the most basic definition, as I know it. Curly wheat, or perhaps egg-based noodles were the base of the dish, and were actually quite scarce. I wish I'd had three times as many. And the noodles were atypical of any Thai I've eaten before. Picture al dente ramen noodles: not unpleasant, but as strange in this dish as would be penne italian pasta. The sauce really lacked, and formed a broth-type soup that didn't stick to the components, but instead pooled weakly at the bottom: another attribute of ramen that should not be present in Pad Kee Mao. A delicious fresh medley of cabbage, lightly cooked broccoli, and other veggies made the dish quite enjoyable, actually, along with a few pieces of chicken that I had chosen as the "meat" in the dish. Delicious asian button mushrooms were cooked fresh into the dish (not canned) and made a nice taste/texture enhancement to the meal. Matter of fact, I enjoyed the lunch; it was a plain, barely dressed working-class Thai dish, as I imagine a poor Thai grandmother would make for her young'uns: nutritious, fresh, spartan, and plain. But it was certainly not the Pad Kee Mao I love. Without the rice noodles, I"m not sure it was actually any Pad dish at all. but this was a full entree, and not featured on the cheaper lunch offering. I'd have to try their food again, but I'm not sure I will, unless I end up living in Grant's Pass, OR.

My family and I were passing by from the Bay Area to Bandon Oregon and we decided to stop here because of the good reviews, but it was really disappointing. Not very authentic at all. I come from a Thai/Lao/Mien background and living in the Bay Area with so many choices of good thai food this one didn't meet my standard of Thai food. We ordered chicken larb, it was plain boiled ground chicken with lime and some fish sauce not like the usual larb that is seasoned with rice powder, chili pepper, mint leaves and cilantro. We also ordered noodle soup which the broth was very bland and the only condiments they had for it was soy sauce. I'm used to the red chili sauce, pepper flakes, peanuts, jalepenos in fish sauce, hoisin sauce and the chili garlic oil pepper. We also had pad see ew and that was drenched in sweet soy so it was dark and salty. I'm not sure if it's because maybe that don't have the resources to get these ingredients. The only thing that was decent there was the angel wings and Thai tea. Even the side of steam rice was not very good, it was hard. So overall I don't think I would ever come here again and recommend this place to ppl who like authentic Thai food.

Since their latest remodel, we've been going here about every other Thursday. Live music is very pleasant. Their peanut sauce is the best in town. Wait staff is always friendly. Coconut martinis are killer. Plus they have Workers Pale Ale on tap. Doesn't get much better.

By far the best Thai food I have ever had. I've tried Thai food at other restaurants and did not like the food. I was told that The Royal Barge was excellent. We gave it a try and it was well worth it. Food , service and prices are outstanding. This is by far one of our favorite restaurants in Grants Pass.

Great Thai that we found fairly accidentally while on a road trip from CA to WA. Delicious entrees, cheap beers ($3.50 for a Ninkasi IPA!) and attentive service. Stop by when you're in Ashland. Thanks guys!

I had the pad Thai and it was pretty good. The deep fried tofu was also, pretty good. I really enjoyed the sauce that came with my fried tofu... I ended up pouring it all over my pad Thai. The noodles were either over or under cooked, I'm not sure- some were just chewy. Not the soft noodle texture I'm used to. Also, adding the sauce that came with the tofu improved the dish! I would recommend this place, but my stomach hurt the next day. I don't believe it was related to the food, but I never have stomach aches. My best friend always gets the pineapple fried rice and loves it! He hasn't tried any other Thai restaurants because of it!!

When we first walked in I was a little worried; hodgepodge decor and an overwhelming smell of mold, mildew, and cleaning products. The menus were old with the lamination peeling off. But, we had just taken a jet boat ride and were too hungry to look elsewhere for another place to eat - plus we had our hearts set on Thai. Since there were other good reviews we thought we should stay and give this place a chance. Good thing we did!! The food was very flavorful and delicious! We ordered the Massaman curry with tofu, pad see ew, chicken chow mein, and pad thai. The curry and pad see ew were delicious. My daughter loved the chicken chow mein, and my husband said the pad thai was ok (not spectacular - but ok). We also ordered the Yum Tofu - that is awesome...loved the lime flavor. If you can tolerate the initial smell when you walk in you will be in for a culinary treat!

Royal Barge is a cut above other Thai restaurants in the area. The food is fresh and high-quality, restaurant is very clean and the service is excellent. This was our second time coming here, and I'm so glad we came back. Hubby had the phad thai, and it was different than any phad thai either of us have had before. Most phad thai is fairly dry and sometimes overly sweet, but this was just right, with a wonderful depth of flavor. I had Kang Pha, a vegetable curry (I chose chicken for the protein) with galangal and lemon grass. When I ordered, he asked if it was OK with me that it was the only curry without coconut milk. I was looking for something different, so I said no problem. This curry is more like a soup, with a broth, and it is absolutely delicious. I love Thai curry, but this is something else entirely. The flavors are amazing and the spicing was perfect--enough to be spicy but not enough to interfere with the flavors. I was extremely happy with my choice, and I now have a new favorite curry. I couldn't eat all of it, so I brought some home and told my daughter to try it. She was skeptical, until she tasted it. Wow, that is good, she said. Everything we've had here so far is delicious, fresh and well prepared. Service is friendly and fast, and everything is very clean. I believe this has become our favorite Thai restaurant in the Valley. We will be back.

Overnight stay....where to eat? Read reviews & decided to get take out & back to motel to relax. Would have been an enjoyable eating 'in' experience as I loved the decor & a drink would have been lovely. Picked a 'new selection'....eggplant with Thai basil. They don't do *'s so had medium which left my lips pleasantly burning. Lots of eggplant & assorted veggies. Thank god! No baby corn! Huge portion-$8.99. Would eat here again...what more could you ask. Note: I hardly ever get take out. I guess it's called a 'spork'....what a useless piece-o-crap. So beware travelers!
